A bad beat in a tournament of this caliber usually features bad blood and angry words, but we've just seen the most cordial elimination ever.
Diane "Gigi" Gagne (Clearwater, FL) and Bert Lambert (Duffield, VA) are all in preflop with Gagne holding pocket queens against Lambert's pocket aces.
The flop brings an ace and a queen for set over set as the table lets out a mini roar. The turn is another queen to give Gagne quads and everyone erupts.
"I love it," says Gagne, "I waited and waited and waited and it finally came," she says giddy with excitement after finally doubling-up. "This is huge," after stacking 100k in chips.
Lambert is very gracious about having aces cracked and stops to tell his story with a huge smile to anyone who will listen. This is Lambert's first big buy-in tournament and the oil distributor says it's been a "great trip, other than the bad beat."
Level 12 (600/1,200/100 ante) is winding down as players are heading on a 15 minute break.
