Event 13: Meet Mike Holm
Mike Holm (Chicago, IL) has a great personality for poker. Not afraid to joke or laugh at the table and seems down to earth and friendly with the players.
It's Mike's first time and Borgata and he's loving it. "My goal is to cash in every tournament I play in". He cashed yesterday and now again today her in Event #13.
Holm's main goal of course is to cash in the WPT Championship. That's why he and a few friends he brought in from Chicago are really here. Mike played in the first WPT event last year at Bellagio where the Royal Flush girls made their debut. He managed to get some TV airtime with them and even bought them all some chocolate covered strawberries. Hmmm. Sounds like a MOST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WORLD commercial.
Players on a ten minute break.
Event 13: Givotovsky Is GivoTOPsky
Right now it's Alek Givotovsky (New York, NY) vs. the rest of the field. With three tables, 27 players remaining, Alek has a commanding chip lead. Adam Lippert is now seated to Alek's right. "I think he's double the next closest stack" commented Adam. "Pretty sick world" said Givotovsky.
Pretty close to double as James English has 500,000 in second place. English is campaigning to get an extra dinner voucher if they play more than 12 hours. He jokingly said he's starting a petition.
Mary Beth Salmieri (Los Angeles, CA) is seated to James' right. She seems to be all in every time I look over. One she chopped, the second she won.
Event 12: Sweet 16 Complete
Christian Harder sweeps Ryan DeAngelo 2 games to none and is the last Sweet 16 match to finish as play concludes for the night.
Play resumes at noon Wednesday as the eight remaining players battle in the quarterfinals for the Heads Up title and the $34,284 first place prize.
Event 13: You're All Winners
Jason Ginex K♣ K♥ vs. Opponent's 7♣ 7♥
Board runs: 2♣ A♣ 9♣ 2♥ 6♥. Kings hold up.
Opponent had Jason covered by 7500 and was forced all in the very next hand as the big blind was 8000.
Surprisingly the entire table folds around to Justin Friedman in the small blind who calls without looking.
Opponent never looked either and so flipped over one card, the K♦ . Justin flips an A♠ which caused opponent to moan, about to accept his fate.
Board ran: 3♥ 3♦ 2♣ A♥ Q♠. Kickers never played - Opponent's 5 vs. Justin's 9.
And with that the bubble fled the felt and the remaining 36 have reached part of the $130,900 Total Buy-In.
Event 12: Round 3 Continues
Four more players advance to the Elite 8, leaving one match from the Sweet 16, Christian Harder vs Ryan DeAngelo. They're playing game two after Harder took the first.

Event 13: Frank Felts Brian Paneth
Both players improved on a heart heavy flop of K-Q-10.
"I was trying to represent A-K" said Frank who quickly re-raised Brian's flop bet with an all-in jam.
So you're sitting with top and bottom pair at risk for all your chips up against a big blind who didn't re-pop pre - you can't blame Paneth for committing.
Board ran clean and the set of Queens earned Frank a monster pot. He's now up in the neighborhood of 400,000.
Before Brian departed he told me he signed up for the Heads Up and Event 13 and was playing at the same time in both tournaments.
He built his stack early in Event 13 since he had a bye in the first round of heads up. Then he played heads up for 3 1/2 hours while his healthy Event 13 stack bled off 80,000 in blinds and antes.
Even though he had his heart on winning the Heads Up, after busting there, he focused here. Alas, he couldn't survive running into a set of Queens and now has lost twice today.

Event 10 Recap
Three-hundred seventeen took the felt September 12th at 11am all vying for a share of the $110,950 total buy in. 36 made the cash but only 21 returned this afternoon at 12pm.
Just one outlasted everybody and held on to their $100 Black Chip Bounty. That man's name is Stanley Combs. Stanley's aces held up at the final table and he never relinquished the chip lead.
Stanley had to comb his way through a tough field including WSOP bracelet holders Andre boyer and Jason Young. Other notables included Mike Dentale, Dave Zeitlin, & Jerry Payne (Centerville, OH).
Things got interesting with our final three who each made their share of great plays.
It was anybody's game once Stephen Gallant (Raleigh, NC) doubled his short stack, then doubled up again cracking KK with a set of threes.
Brian Weaver (Elm City, NC) scored five bounties and busted out in 3rd for $10,009.
2nd place $16,143 honors went to Stephen Grant who scooped 6 bouties and was as low as 14,000 during day 1.
But once again our big winner was Stanley Combs who took down his largest Borgata cash ever with the $29,058 win along with 8 bounties. A hit and run for Combs who has to visit his Mom after being away for a year.

Event 10: Stanley Combs - 1st Place
Stanley Combs wins the Blue Shark Optics sunglasses, the Borgata engraved trophy, and $29,058. Not to mention $100 for each of his 8 bounty knock-outs.
This is Stanley's largest Borgata cash so far, surpassing a 10K he took down in the 2011 Winter Poker Open.
The hand that gave him the chip lead...the hand he won and didn't look back..."Oriole Aces pulled through late in the tournament to propel me to victory" exclaimed Combs.
Stephen hasn't been able to see his Mother in a year and is traveling now to visit her. What a good kid.
Congrats again to our Event 10 winner, Stanley Combs.

Event 10: Stephen Gallant - 2nd Place
"I wasn't even gonna play" explained Stephen who is staying at Borgata for one week and was conscious of managing his bankroll properly. "Then I figured, why not?"
Looked like Stephen was leaven' yesterday as he was down to 14,000 and wasn't getting any cards. He battled back to 31,000 and things shot up from there.
Stephen has three kids reading the Borgatapokerblog at home and knocked out six other players.
Way to go Stephen. Glad you decided to take a chance and play in Event 10. Like they say, you can't win if you don't play.
Event 10: Brian "Paul" Weaver - 3rd Place
First Brian "Paul" Weaver (Richmond, VA) folded sixes, then had kings cracked, then gets aces in what would be his final hand and had them fall as well.
Weaver fell short of his first place goal but will smile all the way to the bank for his 3rd place $10,009 haul.
Paul currently resides in Elm City, NC. He has four kids and earned 5 bounties. Hey, that's at least one for each kid.
Paul was happy with his play yesterday and today claiming he never was all in with the worst hand. He does regret folding pocket sixes because he would have knocked Stephen out and secured at least second place money.
All and all a job well done for Brian "Paul" Weaver.
Event 13: Big Stacks
Level 14 (1,500/3k/300 ante) is underway as the cards are back in the air.
Big Stacks
Alek Givotovsky (New York, NY) 350k
Ahmet Kose (North Brunswick, NJ) 340k
Satish Surapaneni (New York, NY) 315k
Jim Welsh (Kissimmee, FL) 304k
Tyler Dixon (New Orleans, LA) 273k
Event 10: Brian Needs To Battle Back
Folding sixes a couple hands earlier has come back to haunt Brian Weaver.
Weaver looks down at cowboys and has Stephen Gallant raising into him.
Back and forth action until Gallant (at risk) shoves all in with 3-3 and Weaver calls dominating with K-K.
A three on the river gives Gallant another huge double up and cripples Weaver down to 600,000.
Board ran: 4-A-Q-2-3
Our three players are on a ten minute break. Weaver is sticking around at the table, perhaps shaking off the unfortunate river.
Event 10: Stanley Doubles Stephen
A big hand for the final three that came pretty close to all three players going all-in pre flop.
Chip leader Stanley Combs opened for 200,000. He just used the same bet last hand holding K-9 off. So Brian Weaver calls. Stephen Gallant in the big blind ships the remainder of his 560,000 total chips. Stanley snap calls so fast that it stops Brian in his tracks.
Brian folds and shows wired sixes.
Stanley tables A-K off vs. Stephen's red pair of deuces.
Board runs: 9-4-9-Q-8
Stephen doubles through the chip leader.
Weaver was disappointed because he folded the best hand and it would have knocked out the short stack Stephen.
Event 10: 4th Place - Ltaif
Nimer Ltaif got his last chips in with K9, but ran into the pocket 8s of Stanley Combs.
Stanley's pair held up and he took the pot.
Nimer Ltaif (Ottawa, Ontario) finished in 4th place, earning $8,072.

Blinds are up to 40k/80k with 5k antes.
Four-handed play continues.
Event 10: Ltaif Doubles
Nimer Ltaif got all-in against the monster stack of Stanley Combs. Nimer's AK had Stanley's A4 dominated.
The board came A K Q J 4 and both made Aces-up, but Nimer's two pair was better. He doubled up to ~800k.

Turn was an Ace. Stanley led for 450k. Josh shoved. Stanley called, showing pocket Aces for top set. Josh held AQ suited for Aces-up. River was an irrelevant 7.
When the stacks were counted down, Josh had Stanley covered by about 65k.
Stanley doubled up to ~ 4 million. Total chips in play: 6.34 million.
Josh got his last chips in on the next hand (40k was already committed to the big blind). Stanley took those chips too, along with Josh's bounty.
Josh Brikis (Pittsburg, PA) finished in 5th place, earning $6,242.
The final four are taking a break.
Event 10: 6th Place - Cicak
Josh Birkis (small blind) and George Cicak (big blind) got all the chips in the middle.
George held A9 offsuit and was ahead of Josh's A7 suited. Then the board came A 7 2 5 K and Josh made Aces-up to take the pot. He's now up to ~2 million and once again the chip leader.
George Cicak (Randolph, NJ) finished in 6th place, earning $5,273.
Event 13: Chip Leaders
Russell Crane (Howell, NJ) scoops another pot with AK vs AQ to take his stack to 225k and is one of three players with more than 200k. Three seats in his left is Paul Spitzberg (Tenafly, NJ) who's at 215k.
Stuck in the middle are John Campbell (Hummelstown, PA) and Jim Morton (Charlottesville, VA), both who just joined the table. Morton says his claim to fame is that he started the day at table 13 in event 13 on Sept. 13th.
The other big stack in the room is James English (Fort Lauderdale, FL) who jokingly says he's, "outplaying everyone at the table."
Level 12 (1k/2k/300 ante) is underway.
Event 10: 7th Place - Frank
Bruce Frank got all-in and called by chip leader Stanley Combs. Bruce's A7 suited was dominated by Stanley's AJ offsuit.

Bruce Frank (Montclaire, NJ) finished in 7th place and will earn $4,251 for his efforts.

Event 10: Combs Claims Lead
After the break, the final seven got back to the felt with blinds of 15k/30k with 4k antes.
George Cicak opened for 70k, Nimer Latif flat-called from the small blind, then Stanley Combs shoves for 645k. George re-shoved, forcing Nimer to fold his pocket 3s.
Stanley held 97 off. George was ahead with pocket Jacks.
The flop came 5 5 3 and Nimer groaned about his missed full house. The last two came 8 6 and Stanley back-doored a straight to double up.
George drops back to ~1.2 million while Stanley takes the chip lead with ~1.4 million

Event 13: Aces, Aces and Aces
It's good to be Russell Crane (Howell, NJ). Not only is he a good player, but when the deck cooperates, look out. "Ace, aces and more aces," says the 2011 Spring Poker Open Champion.
Crane says he's doubled-up twice with pocket aces and has gotten one other time to take his stack to 120k, one of the bigger stacks in the room.
In addition to winning $277,000 in the spring, Crane also won the Borgata Deep Stack Double Play in August for another $149,000. Pretty nice run so far this year with lots of play left on the calendar.
Event 10: Brikis Takes Chip Lead

The board came K K 4 Q and Josh doubled up to ~1.6 million. George was left with ~870k.
George moved in on a board of 8 4 3 K 5 with three diamonds and moved Stephen Gallant off his hand. That pot put George up to 1.1 million. Stephen was left with ~700k.
Event 10: 10th Place - Potis
They got cards in the air at the final table and Anthony Potis (Scranton, PA) wasted no time getting his chips in the middle. He min-raised and got re-raised by George Cicak. Anthony shoved and George called.
George had AK and was dominating Anthony's AQ. The flop brought and Jack with two blanks. A Queen on the turn gave Anthony the lead with a pair of Queens, but the Ten on the river gave George Broadway and the pot.

Event 10: 14th Place - Abdallah
Hamdy Abdallah moved all in for ~100k and action folded to Josh Brikis in the big blind. Josh made the call, showing A8 suited. Hamdy was behind with KJ offsuit.
The board ran out 7 6 5 7 7 and Ace-high was good for Josh.
Hamdy Abdallah (Waterbury, CT) finished in 14th place, earning $1,076.
Event 10: Fourteen Fellows
Matt 'muffins' Mazzeo (E Williston, NY) busted out in 16th place ($915). He may be gone from this event but the treats he bring for the bloggers from his bakery, Ohmigod! will not be forgotten.
Bruce Frank doubled up through Paul Pedretti, (Mineola, NY) but Paul was left with a few chips, so Bruce missed out on his bounty.
Paul more than tripled up on the next hand when he was all-in, but his comeback did not last long. He finished in 15th place ($915) .

Event 12: Heads Up Happening
Today's other main event is the $3k Heads-Up No Limit Hold'em tournament. The format has changed slightly from past heads-up tournaments here at Borgata.
In the past, this event was double-elimination: if a player lost a match, he fell into the 'losers bracket'. When he lost a second match, he would be eliminated from the tournament.
This time, each match will be best two of three games. This means each player will have to lose two games to be eliminated, but those two games will be against the same opponent.
Last September, Jeremy McLaughlin (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) took top honors in this event, along with over $49,000.
During the 2011 Winter Open, the heads-up event buy-in was $2k. After two days play, the winner was Brandon Zaucha (Arlington Heights, IL) who claimed almost $35k.
The draw is currently underway and the bracket is not full, so some players will get a first-round bye.
The match-ups will be posted later, but among those patiently awaiting the draw are
Gavin Smith
Matt Glantz
Christian Harder
Defending champion Jeremy McLaughlin
Jeff Madsen
Ian Palomo
Austen Johnson

Event 11 Recap
$350 Buy-In + $50 Entry
Big Stack Pot Limit Omaha - High
PLOh-Yeah! Event 11 is in the books after running 16 hours. When the dust settled it was chipslinger and seven year poker pro, Paul Greim (Helmetta, NJ) who picked off 20-25 players and collected every one of the 2,800,000 PLO tournament chips.
Players began with 20,000 and all were vying for part of the $49,000 total buy-in.
Famous faces in the field included: James Boyd, Keith Crowder, Paul Spitzberg,
and Billy Seymour.
Of course only the top 18 cashed. And 18th place Terrance O’Connell barely cashed as the bubble took over an entire level to break then during hand-to-hand, two players from two different tables busted out simultaneously.
Three Alan’s were playing on the final three tables. Alan Marshal finished in 11th place while the last Allan standing was (the other) Allan Barrie who earned $4,515 for third place.
Second place went to Gregory Kolo who thought he was destined for third place. Kolo collects $7,842 for his marathon day’s work.
Everyone had fun throughout the poker tournament PLO grind but it seemed our first time champion Paul Greim had the most fun. Sure he won the $14,258 prize but the 27 year old lit up like a Christmas tree after seeing the Borgata Poker Open trophy and sunglasses.
Event 11: Paul Greim - 1st Place
After playing poker professionally for seven years, Paul Greim (Helmetta, NJ) just took down his first live tournament first place prize.
Sure he was happy to score the $14,258 but wasn't surprised. In fact he texted his friend at 9pm and told her the money he owed her is coming because he's gonna win the tournament.
Paul's predictions came true as he knocked out player after player on the final table. "I must have knocked out 20 to 25 players today" admitted Greim.
Greim's strategy as he simply stated to me - he pushed chips in, people called, he pulled pots back.
Some advice to other players if they want to win...Paul recommends a beverage or two from Borgata Babes. "I've been drinking since 7:08pm" said Paul.
As most men are excited by $14,258 Paul was more excited when the trophy made an appearance on the table. "I haven't won a trophy since high school soccer" said the 27 year old pro. He was digging the Blue Shark Optics too.
Congratulations to Paul Greim who had the table laughing, then assassinated all of them and had the last laugh.
Event 11: Gregory Kolo - 2nd Place
Then back to back double-ups and a loose shove by Allan changed that mind-set.
Kolo has only played PLO twice in his life - both times at Borgata Opens. Finished 5th place last year and now ends up in 2nd for $7,842.
This is Greg's highest Borgata cash to date. He hopes to play more as the week continues.
Event 11: Allan Barrie - 3rd Place
He raised, Paul potted, and Allan shoved sensing he was behind.
Allan 2-K-7-7 vs. Paul's 4-5-6-8.
Board ran 6-Q-10-J-8 knocking Allan out in third place for $4,515.
Allan shook hands with both opponents and bowed out.
All day Allan Barrie joked with me that he was "the other" Allan Barrie. He also told a funny story where a poker fan googled Allan Barrie and believed he was the poker pro millionaire.
Event 11: Sardor Gaziev - 4th Place
Sardor held the chip lead from time to time during the PLO but ended the event with 400,000.
He got it all in on a flop of Q-6-6 holding A-A-K-5. Opponent (again Paul Greim) had a six and it ended up playing and holding up.
Sardor is a college student from North Brunswick.
He can subtract $3,802 off his tuition bills for his 4th place Borgata PLO finish - if he so chooses.
Event 11: Dave Watis - 5th Place
Event 11: Ricky Hale - 6th Place
Hale came up short on his final hand. Chip leader Paul Greim shipped all in holding 8-8-3-3. Ricky called with a double suited A-9-Q-10.
When the dust settled, Greim's 8-8 held up as the best hand.
Jane stood by Ricky on the rail as both will be back to play on Wednesday and here throughout the duration of the Borgata Poker Open.
Ricky resides in the UK and was happy to hear that Jeffery Duvall who took down the H.O.R.S.E. event earlier is from London.
Hale, Hale, Ricky wins $2,377 for his sixth place finish.
Event 11: James Harris - 7th Place
Kolo's luck continues as he found a third Jack on the flop then rivered a meaningless flush.
Harris will add $1,901 to his Borgata bankroll for his long day at the office.
Event 11: Billy Cashwell - 8th Place
The very next hand Billy shoves 160,000 with A-K but runs into Opponent's A-Q-Q-4.
When asked if he was sticking around or driving back to North Carolina, Billy said, "I ain't going nowhere yet."
Cashwell cashed pretty well for his $1,426 8th place finish.
For the record, not a donk-off when holding A-K at a final table.

Event 11: Marshall Mashed
Alan Marshall didn't bubble the tournament but he did bubble the final table.
Rough beat for Alan who hit a straight and has his Opponent thinking he was drawing dead.
Nope, he had a three-outter for a bigger straight and of course hit it.
Alan's A-J-2-Q vs. Paul Greim's Q-3-K-8.
Board runs: 4-8-10-9-J
"He can only hit a jack and he does" lamented Marshall. "Everytime they hit their one or two-outter"
As the cliche goes...THAT'S POKER.
Alan will be back Wednesday for some more Borgata Poker.
Event 10: No Gain for Payne
Event 2 runner-up Jerry Payne (Centerville, OH) is on the rail in 31st place ($646) when his AK is no good in a three way all-in pot.
Matt "Muffins" Mazzeo (East Williston, NY) is the short stack and triples up with pocket aces, while Stan Combs (Dayton, OH) wins the side pot with pocket 8s, knocking Payne out in the process.

Playing this to conclusion tonight. Stay tuned...
Event 10: Big Stacks
As the bubble breaks, here's a look at the big stacks:
George Cicak (Randolph, NJ) 450k
Daniel Chan (New York, NY) 420k
Josh Brikis (Pittsburgh, PA) 400k
Aaron Massey (Chicago, IL) 400k
Still in the field:
Matt "Muffins" Mazzeo
Jerry Payne
Jared Jaffee
Melanie Borchetta
Daniel Chan
Event 10: Jacks No Good - Twice
Two tables, two players with pocket jacks, both lose, one bubbles, the other cashes.
An anonymous player is all in for 57k with pocket jacks and is rundown by A8 when an ace flops. Two tables over, Andy Sherman-Ash (East Lyne, CT) is all in for 110k with his pocket jacks and loses a coin flip to the AK of Aaron Massey (Chicago, IL).
Because Sherman-Ash has more chips before the hand started, the anonymous player finishes on the bubble in 37th place and Sherman-Ash is the first player to cash in 36th for $646.
Hand-for-hand play lasted 34 minutes, half of the time is going back on the clock as play continues with the blinds at 3k/6k/500 ante
Event 11: Double Bubble Bursts
Wow, after a long intense fight for the cash, two tables had simultaneously all-in's.
On table 3, Terrance O'Connell (New Windsor, NY) saw his Opponent on the button open yet another pot for 25,000. "We got a live one here boys" declared O'Connell who bet the pot.
I guess the guys on table 2 didn't hear the declaration or pay attention as two of their players were watching their fate unfold.
Boom, a player on table 2 busts out and bolts for the exit. I chase after but he was in no mood and refused to give any details including his name.
Meanwhile Terrance, holding A-A-6-2 also busts, losing to Opponent who turns two pair.
Floor figures out the starting chips from each bust-out. Turns out Terrance had more and thus gets the min-cash.
O'Connell gets $713 for his 18th place finish.
Event 10: Reunion
Two players who made deep runs in the 2010 WSOP Main Event are on the bubble and with downtime between hands are recalling how one knocked the other out.
Josh Brikis (Pittsburgh, PA) finished 55th after Jerry Payne (Centerville, OH) sent him to the rail with J♣ 10♣ vs A♣ 6♦ on Day 7. "I was ahead before the flop," says Brikis as the two reminisce about their 6-figure paydays with Payne coming in 42nd place.
Brikis won't get a chance at payback as Payne busts in 31st place.
