Calvin Liu (Brooklyn, NY) moved in pre-flop with A5 offsuit.  Jay Nair (Redmond, WA) looked him up with A7.

The board came Q J 5 9 3 and despite being dominated, Calvin paired his 5 to double up to over 2 million.

On the other table, Steve Ryan got his chips in good with pocket Kings, getting the look-see from Ray Ferretti (Woolwich TWP, NJ) who held AK.  An Ace hit the board and that was all Ray needed to  claim the pot.

Playing 50k/100k blinds with 10k antes:

Turgut Guersel (Fairview, NJ) limped utg, then Joe Wertz (sb) made it 450k to go.  Turgut shoved for ~2 million and Joe called, showing AK.  Turgut held A4 suited. 

The board changed nothing and Joe took the pot.  He's now up to ~4.7 million.

Event 1: 17th Place - Giugliano

Joe Wertz doubled through Ta Wey (Hackensack, NJ) when his pocket Jacks turned into a set.  Joe was up to ~3.4 million.  Ta was left with ~1.9 million.

Rocco Giugliano open-shoved for 540k and got called by Nick Salimbene (Brick, NJ).  Rocco's A7 off was dominated by Nick's A9 suited.  The board came Q J 3 9 T and Nick took the pot.

Rocco Giugliano finished in 17th place ($3,666).

Hamdy Abdalla (Waterbury, CT) moved his short-stack all-in dark and got called by Mitchell Mantin (Las Vegas, NV).

Mitchell held KJ suited.  Hamdy rolled over J9 offsuit and saw that he was dominated.

Then the board came A 9 4 8 T and Hamdy paired his 9 to double up.

Hamdy was ready to go and moved in again on the next hand for 480k.  Ed Walsh called from the cutoff and Rocco Giugliano (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ) called from the big blind.

They checked down the board of Q 7 7 6 Q.  Hamdy held K 6, but his pair was counterfeited and he only had a King-kicker for the two pair on board.  Ed rolled over AJ for the better kicker to take the pot (Rocco mucked).

Ed chipped up to ~6.1 million, good for the chip lead.

Hamdy Abdalla finished in 18th place, earning $3,666.

Playing 30k/60k with 5k antes.

On the turn with a board of A♣8♦7♣Q♣, Joe Wertz (utg) checked to Vincent Maglio, who bet 565k.  After giving it some thought, Joe called. 

River was the K♥.  Joe checked, Vincent fired 1.325 million.  Joe tanked, then folded.  Vincent showed one card -- the T♥.  He's back up to ~6 million.

Joe was left with about 2 million.

Event 2: Karate Chopped

What usually ends in a chopped pot, didn't turn out so peacefully for Atlantic City cardroom regular, Mike Santoro.

The bad beat sent Mike off the edge, we hope he shakes it off and comes back tomorrow to redeem himself.

The flop bring two spades, the turn brings another spade and the dealer pauses before the river.

"Karate Mike" tells the dealer, "No funny stuff," but the A♠ comes off, sending the Jersey local into a cuss-filled rant.

Other players at the table mentioned they could see steam coming from his ears, the "tilt level" was off the charts.

Ed Walsh (Warrington, PA) got all-in pre-flop for over 1.7 million against David Tarwil.  Ed's pocket Aces were way ahead of David's AQ.

Event 1: Darden Done

WSOP bracelet holder Paul Darden, Jr. has busted out.  He made his last stand with KJ suited, only to run into KQ.  Paul finished in 24th place, earning $3,000.

Paul also has one WPT title from season I and another WPT final table where he finished 5th.  His lifetime tournament earnings are around $2 million.
